Mindset of Business Leader?

  • 16 Dec, 2023

Who is a leader? A leader is a person who has been given or who has taken the responsibility to manage and take care of people in the most efficient way for the happiness and prosperity of all. The overall success of any leader is dependent upon the trust he/she can gain from the masses. The greater the number or percentage of happy people in any organization/group/team/society/country the more the trust leader has earned through his/her actions and performance.

A business leader either creates his own business (owner leader) or is an employee in a higher position (employee leader) in a big business house. A business leader chooses his team and other business associates either on salary or business contracts. And his remuneration is profits if he is an owner and salary plus bonuses if he is an employee.

Whether any business leader is an owner or employee, the tenure and thus success of a leader depends upon the overall happiness and prosperity of all or most people involved like internal team and external business associates. If a business leader(employee) fails, the top management brings about a change in the leader. If a business leader(owner) fails the leader remains the same, bringing about change in his attitude, and may also change the management, or bring about any change in the organization to become successful again, and if not, failure is inevitable.

If you want to assess any leadership whether it is Political, Business, sports, or any kind of leadership you must assess only one thing i.e., “Happiness quotient of people”. How can people become happy? Well, first comes the fulfillment of their basic needs and wants of food, clothing, shelter, medical facilities, health, etc. Once their basic needs are fulfilled and then if people are given equal opportunity and freedom of expression then their happiness quotient rises and once the happiness quotient rises, their creativity propels and once creativity propels personal growth happens and when personal growth happens, people start helping, and contributing in many ways for the growth of other team members and organization. This is all natural and automatic. This way any organization becomes happy and prosperous. And when this happens hate, envy, blame, complaints, comparison, corruption, etc. vanishes and cooperation and coordination start to propel.

Does a leader deliver what he/she promises? Are they converting their promises into actions and actions into results? If not, either the intention of the leader is not right, they might have some vested interests or they lack the skill to fulfill the promises although they might be smart enough to influence people through emotional speeches. But when it comes to action and performance, they do the opposite. The tenure of such a leader is short and temporary. The under performance can be either due to his/her bad intentions or weak skill or both. And his/her internal team and external associates may suffer financial losses and mental peace and they will break their ties with the business leader.

Leadership is all about leading the ships from the front to make a joyous journey for all. When the times are easy anybody can lead but it is difficult times which shows the true character & and skill of any leader and tests his ability to navigate in difficult times which determines his/her credit ability as a leader.

The typical traits of a good leader are that they talk less, promise less, perform more, take responsibility for their failures, and do not indulge in blame games. They learn from their mistakes, take action to improve, and bring about positive change. Their focus area is the growth & and prosperity of all. They unite people and enhance love, coordination, and cooperation among people.

And

A bad leader speaks, speaks, and just keeps on speaking, making tons of promises to gain your trust but their performance chart is very low. On failure, they blame others but never take responsibility for failures and when it comes to some success, you will always find them in front taking credit. They might repeat their mistakes as they do not want to learn and change. Their focus area is personal gains. They divide people, create disharmony between them, and create an atmosphere of fear just to rule them.A good business leader should be able to generate profits for the organization and should be able to retain good suppliers, good buyers, and a good internal team. All in all, he/she should be able to create a win-win situation for all where everybody gets their share of profit/revenue according to their capacities and performance. Not only that, but he should also be able to create an atmosphere of internal harmony, a platform for individual growth without any discrimination.

A strong, determined, focused, skillful, kind leader is the prerequisite for any successful organization.

Well, can I become such a business leader? Yes, if!

  • My focus is the growth and prosperity of all,
  • My mind is flexible and open to new ideas,
  • I can get the best out of every team member,
  • I can enhance cooperation and coordination among team members,
  • I can delegate work as per individual strengths,
  • I can make everyone understand the strengths of each other,
  • I can link rewards with performance,
  • I am ready to listen to every individual,
  • I can communicate effectively and can convince people,
  • I am unbiased in my decisions and actions,
  • I have a clear-cut vision, mission, and goals to achieve.

So, if you know whom to fit, where to fit, and how to fit, and achieve your goals then you are a true business leader.
